I was treated to some 4 year old stout (home brewed) when in Oz. this year and the utility area under the property resembled a brewery, with more classes of beer than we see in Europe.

yet if you talk to the brewery about it they'll tell you its fits the flavour profile exactly. Same with the becks.
But they are definately ordinary compared the knappstein reserve lager.

I like carlsberg on a hot day and I have just bottled a home brewed version of it. As well as that I have a cloned bees nees down as well so I will be keen to see how it turns out.

I'm a James Squires fan. The Porter is my favourite, but I recently acquired a case of their seasonal Hop Thief Ale. And very good it is too. Knocked off half a dozen on Saturday and half a dozen Original Amber Ale as well. Then had to have a sit down for a while....

Had a single Cascade Lager tonight, went down very smooth.

He's opening a brewery at Lobethal in the Adelaide Hills soon (Lobethal Bierhaus). Can't tell you what the brews like yet, his first one's not out of the tanks, but the place is looking good. Let you know on the results. Thanks for the opportunity for a plug for him.

Personally I prefer a good red (wine).

Funny you should mention that Bob. When I was but a callow youth, there was a fairly serious beer strike that affected the supplies to our area (Central Qld). The trucks started arriving with supplies from Mexico and the surrounds, and low and behold one of the unknown beers that we tried was Southwark. Almost made me give up beer entirely until the strike was over. I've never drunk the urine of a cat, but Southwark gave me the feeling that I had.

Samuel Adams boston lager. I used to think all american beer was watered down hop cordial but have discovered that there is a thriving micro brewery scene there and though the above is probably a mega brewery it still makes a rather malty aromatic beer.
Are there any seppos that can point me in the direction of a better american lager that may be available here??

Yep, the same situation here in Wide Bay - only we went a step further and sent away a sample for analysis

Seriously, when the strike finished one of the local pubs got stuck with a couple of pallets which nobody wanted. They tried Buy 1 get 1 for free - didn't work, they tried buy 1 of any brand and get 1 free - likewise blokes actually told them to forget it. Not really sur what they ended up doing with it but I presume it was dumped.

James Squire Porter is very nice as well.
I still prefer the stuff from my local micro brewry though
