    Default Redback

So Im tidying up the back yard for the auction in 2 weeks time as I have been doing for the last 2 months..

Anyway I picked up this timber box and it felt sort of squishy, hmm spider thinks I , drops the box smartish like.

Owhhh no , the legs of the spider could only be from a redback, turn the box around to get a better look, yep there she is, a beautiful Redback.

I must have held it tight enough against the box so it couldnt bite me.

Man it was big, I reckon it was the size of a small car, and all afternoon I kept on getting the creeps, ewrrerh..

You caught a lucky break there Al. I got bitten on the pinky by a bloody red back and I just though bah humbug I am fine. Within ten minutes the hairs were standing up on my arm, I had the sweats and my whole arm and shoulder was throbbing like a mudda.

Lucky for you, unlucky for me.

And what did the spider think of you Al?

"Here I was minding my own business hiding in a box so I don't get peed on (quite common around here) and this foil clad monster clumsily squashed me. Next life I will hide under his dunny seat and wear foil myself - unlucky or what?"

I actually felt bad about killing it, but I had to, dont know why?

I usually let them be and they dont bother me, but this one has given me the creeps, my missus followed me around all arvo behaving like a black widow...

Hey Al, you should visit my shed, a.k.a. Redback World.

The kids have a pet one called Vegemite. She recently took out "Most Unusual Pet" at Tanunda show, but the ribbon was too big to drape around her neck.

Here's one of her pals on our porch:
"Look out! Mum's in the shed and she's got a hammer!"

We get them all the time in our workshop. We used to get funnel webs when we lived up in the smoke. Had one that inhabited the outdoor light fitting at our front door. I used to introduce it to visitors.... Me, I can't stand spiders, but I do try to let the ones in the house live as long as they're not poisonous ones.
