Default From 600 Cooktop to 900 Upright

at the moment we have 600mm cooktop with oven, pic below.

now i am planning to buy this Omega Upright one unit and replace cooktop and oven with this upright unit.

what would you suggest, how big is this job from cutting side cabinets to adjust this.

i m pretty sure someone must have done this here. cheers

Not really a small job. Is the range hood staying the same ... 600mm? If so then you want the new oven centred under it ... so you would have to take 150mm off the cabinet to each side of the exiting unit.

Just taking to it with a demolition saw wouldn't work. Chances are the kitchen was built with carcases so you could remove the benchtops and take out the carcase and modify ... or you may be able to buy replacements the size that you need (they are generally standard sizes). Then there's the doors ... they are probably vynil wrapped? So you couldn't just cut them down ... they would have to be replaced. Maybe if they are laminex you could modify them ... but you'd need the right tools to get clean cuts etc.

If you really want a 900mm wide unit it might be worth asking a carpenter to quote on the job.

You could certainly do what you are after with some good planning and the right gear but it'll take you more than a couple of hours on a Saturday morning.

Hi Mirz, fancy seeing you here!!!!

take some photos close up of the space with accurate measurements for help. It looks at first glance that the existing oven is a 900mm unit, but the carcass gap is likely to be more than that. Need to check if benchtops are glued down or just screwed and joined, what the doors are made of etc.

its pretty easy for a dishwasher install or new oven to end up been a new kitchen.......

    thanks guys for your input.

we have bought this place, but settlement is in start of next month, so dont have exact measurements atm.

but i am going to house to get exact measurements, and will take photos by myself to make sure they will reflect accurate position of cupboards and stove. this was the only available kitchen pic from realestate website.

pharmaboy, nice to find you here too thanks for your help and advise on whirlpool.

i have paid deposit for this in local HN, but that is subject to measurements. just love this one for this price.

can someone recommend a good carpainter in melbourne northern suburbs thanks.

i love to do handy jobs at home, but would not like to wreck the whole place. will try to evaluate first if it can be done otherwise will let professional do their work.

Correct me if I am wrong but that oven looks to be a 900mm unit, compare it to the diswasher size. If this is the case then it should not be such a major job as the cupboards should be able to remain untouched. Your biggest problem will be the benchtop and how to finish the cut you will need to run through it if it is vinyl wrap. You may be up for new benchtops as a minimum.

going there tonight to get measurements. will post its photos tonight to provide more details.

benchtop if definately not vinyal wrapping, it is laminated.

dishwashers are generaly 600mm wide, so on that basis i m just assuming that oven is atleast 700 mm, but not sure if it is 900 mm atm. will have to wait till tonight for that confirmation.

existing oven and cooktop are same size, but as i remember cooktop only had 4 burners on it. not sure whether it is 600, 700, or 900 mm wide. it would be confirmed only tonight.

do i need any extra space to leave gap on both sides of new oven? new oven is 898mm wide (from its specs), to fit in space, how many mm should i leave on both sides?

what i am planning atm to remove cooktop, canopy, and oven, plus that small cabinet wall between oven and corner. will have to get rid of top middle small cabinets too to fit new canopy there.

how easy it is to remove existing cabinet?

    Hi there Mirz

I installed a stand aloe unit at my last place and it required under 10mm clearance each side.

Removing cabinet shouldn't be too hard once the bench top is off. Then it's just a case of finding all the screws used to attach it to the wall and other cabinets. This is all assuming that its a carcase construction and that is an individual cupboard (most likely).

very disappointing, max width cannot exceed 800 mm, that photo is very dodgy. installed oven is 600mm wide. on other side (not visible in photo) is pantry (cupboard).

i dont think it is possible with current kitchen layout, only option is to redo whole kitchen which is sort of out of my budget at this stage.

    any suggestions fellows....
