    Default Secret Nailing 130mm boards

This looks like a great forum. I hope I can get some good info from you guys

I have an existing cypress pine floor, which I am going to put down some grey iron bark boards on. To make up the correct level of the existing floor in some sections I will need to put down some form of sheeting.

    My questions

    1) Plywood is so expensive, can I use normal yellow tongue flooring sheets

    2) Should I run the new boards at 90 deg. to the old cypress boards

    3) Will I still need to top nail the 130mm boards (my supplier says no) or will secret nailing and loads of adhesive be enough to stop cupping.

I'm getting mixed answers on all 3 questions from builders, suppliers, mates ect. I'd be really interested to see what you guys think.

    Thanks

    Hey dude:

    According to my understanding

1----you should be able to use chipboard , as long as it is fixed onto you pinewood properly ( nails with bostik ultraset glue)

2------if there is a sheet of chipboard between your pine and ironbard, you can run the newfloor either way

3-----if the ironbark is 130mm wide, according to the australian standard top nailing is a must(anything wider than 85mm) unless it's a pre-finished timber, but then it also depends on how much glue the installer is going to use. If it's going to be a full-glue system, secret nailing should be fine.

hope this reply helps and anybody please correct me if I am wrong

    cheers
