Try not to get sun burnt.

    When are you coming up?

I have to do an upgrade on an ATM there sometime soon, I can grab you a handful of brochures.

Reef & Rainforest are the important things to see.

    How long are you staying?

Is it to be a quiet holiday or are you going to try to see the whole of FNQ in 3 days including all the adventure stuff?

We are going for 5 nights.

    I'm under strict instructions.

    1. No contact with or from work.

    2. No contact with or from this forum

    3. No internet access

    4. No mobile phone

Other than that, I open to suggestions.

She wants a complete relaxing time, nice restaurants, buffet breakfast, tours, cruises, sightseeing stuff.
(while she's doing that, I'll be at a loose end )

    Start here.

    http://www.pddt.com.au/

You can do Low Isles & Mossman Gourge with the unwashed masses for a sample of the Reef & Rainforest.

There are heaps of restaraunts & they change all the time & I haven't stayed up there for about 3 years now.

    When are you going?
If it is not in the next week, I can get you some info & post it down.

We did not particularly like PD - too much like the Gold Coast. Just made for tourists. The area around PD in interesting though. Like Cliff said, Mosman Gorge is quite nice, though popular with the tourist groups. Be prepared for the bus loads.

Thanks for the link. We are going from 20th - 25th

I've been looking at diiferent sites but 5 days isn't long so I think we'll just do the reef and the forest, then chill out for a couple of days.

Maybe I'll go fishing. That would be good.

I see it's Carnivale Time too. I hope it's not too noisy.

I love Port Douglas. Been several times.

Don't miss breakfast with the birds. The birds are spectacular, and food is pretty good too.

Reef tours have gotten better, and there are several like the Quicksilver that go out a ways. Can't go there without seeing the reef of course.

Lots of rainforest tours and possibilities. Some of it easy (riding around in vans and boats), some more strenuous. Some lovely stuff up there, and I keep thinking what magnificent timber is all around you there.

The last time we went we noticed a definite improvement in quality of restaurants. Just wander around a bit and you'll have no trouble finding something nice and relaxing.

The fishing I did there was a bit disappointing. We only had a few hours, so ended up in a little skiff poking around the estuary. Interesting morning, lovely area, cool wildlife, saw a few crocs, snagged a ray, caught 1 small fish of some sort. Not a bad way to spend a morning, but not great fishing. Maybe it will be better when you're there.

I'm sure it will be lovely. BTW, mobile phones work fine there, internet connection can be a bit trickier. So just take your blackberry and do it all while she's shopping

Hope you have a great time, mate.

Good plan, Gina was in travel for 9 years & we got all sorts of free or cheap trips to various places & we soon learned to pick a couple of things & enjoy them rather than try to see the entire country in a 3 day weekend.

I won't be much louder than normal but there will be more stuff happening which means there will be plenty of extra free stuff as well.
Unfortunately, that will mean that there are more tourists in town too.
The Sunday markets down in the park on the waterfront are not too bad compared to some of the other markets we have up here.

It is not far to the Daintree where you can do more of the Rainforest & eco stuff, wild life, birds, crocs etc... there are some river cruises & you can get a river fishing trip there. In the Daintree village there is (I think it is still there) a craft shop with plenty of the local feral wood work. Good for ideas at least.

Head over to Dunk Island and take a walk in the shallows along the beach mainland side, there's lottsa sea cucumbers to step on.
