Secret Nailing and 155mm planks
Hi All,
Awsome forum, learnt heaps in the last couple of months.
I wonder if someone can explain to me why I cant use a secret nail gun on my 155mm wide planks, is it because I risk it cupping? is there any other reason?
I was planning on secret nailing with sikaflex and t nailing each end of my planks.
The thing is, my planks are 3.6m in length but decided to keep the maximum length down to 3m only.
If my readings on this forum is correct I will need top top t nail the planks down, OK fine with that. The question is can I get away with just t nailing 2 nails at each end of the planks or must I t nail the middle of the planks as well? bearing in mind I will be secret nailing AND sikaflexing the same planks.
Ill be laying on ply over concrete slab.
I would like to keep the t nails to each end of the planks for presentation perspective. Would this be recommended considering my planks are 3m in length.

I think its a standards requirement and I tink the reason would be cupping. You don't want to mess with timber floors from what I've read ... there is a bit of an art to it and a lot of horror stories.
Any boards that are secret nailed would be glued as well, so I don't think your sikaflexs is anything additional I'm affraid.
Maybe someone else has had first hand experience but I don't think I'd risk it.

I may have missed it but I am probably just wondering if I can get away with just top nailing each end of the 3m planks with 2 t nails. Ideally I would want to avoid top nailing anywheres near the middle of the planks.

Why do so many people have this morbid fear of nails in a timber floor??
For the size boards (or planks) that your using, I'd go with glue and face nailing the whole lot.
You've got to ask yourself "What looks worse, a cupped secret nailed floor, or a flat, face nailed floor?"

My floor's still yellow tongue so I'd take nail heads!!
