Decking timber for fence slats
Hi all,
I need to decide what timber to use as slats between my concrete fence piers, I wanted to use 90x19 treated pine but it only comes wih one side ribbed which is no good, I have used Merbau on my deck but am hesitant to use it as it will bleed all over the painted concrete piers. I want 90x19.
Anyone got any ideas.

I used Merbau with ribbed side facing for outdoor table and stools, and
then as a privacy screen/divide above a side fence. It's very effective and can be stained (this is what I did) or painted.
The sheen of clear varnish gets a nod of approval from all who visit.

Hi dan76n
I missed what your after?? Treated pine decking comes in ribbed / plain and plain / plain and merbau comes in ribbed / plain in 86 x 19 and 67 x 19 but if your after plain / plain then in 42 x 19 .......
Are you after smooth both sides to stain ?
Do you want one side ribbed?
Both sides smooth to paint?
Once i get what your after i will be able to help with whats available

Hi Dan,
haven't seen any plain merbau in the 90mm size up here, but there is plenty of native Aust. timber in the 86mm size eg spotted gum. You can get merbau/kwilla in 67mm and 42mm plain battens, and a mix of the two on screens looks very upmarket.
Cheers

personally i wouldnt be using 90 mm...go the small sizes, 67 or 42 if thats what they come in. Looks much better and also I'd look at placing then horizonitally instead of vertical

Checkout our yard at Jindalee.
We have 85x19 hardwood pencil round decking in short lengths from 900 to 1800mm.
You would have to call in and have a yarn to John.

I'm confused.....not hard but you said you want to use 90x19 treated pine but could not find any plain/plain. what's the difference to what you are wanting and fence pailings?

Im after smooth finish so fence pailings wouldnt be suited.
Out of all the hardwood decking that comes in 90x19, what bleads the least?

They all bleed and yeah some are worse like mebau your pale ones like black butt can still bleed a fair amount when they know you don't want them to like onto a new path or into a new pool
I used to buy plain plain pine decking from my supplier if your painting buy dar primed treated pine and paint it a feature colour
cheers utemad
