Laquer over shellac????
Hi there,
I want to put a clear coat finish over a shellaced finish & would like to know what is the best type to use.
I've heard that Nitrocellulose Lacquer (sp?) is the best way to go but I'm unsure if this will melt or damage the shellac coats in any way.
Anyone know who sells Nitrocellulose Lacquer here in Melbourne?
Or, is there a better alternative?
Thanks for any help.
Regards
Greg

The lmodern generation of pre-catalysed laquers made by Croda, Mirotone or even Wattyl (which many pros dislike) will all go over shellac perfectly. this then gives the shellac a more durable topcoat.

Hi Greg,
Last time I used Pre Cat Laquer I bought it from Paint Mobile.
http://www.paintmobile.com.au/index_flash.html
They seem like a good lot to deal with, they sell the name brand stuff as well as their own in house brand as well.

Yes, I will be spraying it. I've got a spray gun set up so I'm just trying to track down the laquer.
Is Nitrocellulose Laqure the same thing as those mentioned?
