Default Door space for installing roller door

The carpenter has built a frame around the garage door opening, leaving a 2300Hx2800W space for a single roller door to be installed. However, one side of the door space is so close to the steel post (on the external wall of the house), that we don't think we can get the tracks for the roller door to fit down the side & brackets up above. Does anyone know how much space is needed on either side of the doors for installing a roller door?

How easy/difficult is it for a DIYer to install a single roller door?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Great forum!!!

Well now, mate. Welcome to the forum. However, I would have thought that the easy way would be to look at the install instructions for your particular door. Here's one I found in about 30 seconds:

    Hi Ownerbuilder

Installing a roller door is not something for someone who has not done it before because if you don't know what you are doing at the worst people have been killed doing it and at the least there is a good chance you would damage the door.

As far as room required to fit a roller door you need a minimum of 100mm on the side to fit both the support bracket and the guide track.

If you do a search for "roller door" on the forum where I have listed how to do it if you are game.

What brand of roller door do you have.

Bob & Bazza - thanks for your advice! Haven't bought the roller door yet...still in the process of looking at prices. Saw one at a demolition yard (all new, unused stock) for $395 for single roller doors, without remote control. I'm not sure what brand ... "no name??" Will also be contacting garage door installers for quotes this week for comparison.

Bob, for some reason when I searched for roller door installation instructions, I went into other home pages, not B&D's - they have much clearer instructions than the others I saw & answers my question exactly. Thank you

    Hi All

Just a final note to say that I'll be getting a roller door specialist to install the garage door. Not worth messing about! The carpenter has now made sure there is enough space around the sides of the doorway to allow for the roller tracks.

Anyway, now waiting for plasterer to do his bit before getting roller door installed...After Easter sometime!
