I miss both of mine... one was best described as a battleship dowager, but she needed to be. T'other was an old softie.
But when it came to feeding us kidleys up... oh, yeah! They'd both bake all week for when we dropped in on weekends and put on spreads that'd put Smorgies to shame. Trifle, pavlova, apple pie... all we could eat, and often more.

I had a good one and a scrag one.
Scrag ones only words to me ever were "So thats what you look like"
The good one never ever spoke a word to me. I asked her was she deaf but she never answered me.

I never met one of them. (Gone before I arrived.) The other one made the best bread in the whole world. Too bad her daughter didn't inherit the skill.

My favourite Grandma used always to give me the same things on my birthday. When I was aboput five. I was quite ill with pleurisy. She said that what I needed was a glass of good port to 'build me up', so she gave my mum a bottle of port and told her to give me a glass every day. I loved it, and every birthday from then on until she died, I received a Birthday cake and a bottle of port. And no, I didn't become an alcoholic- not quite- and yes, it cured my pleurisy!
The collecting of facts is not the gaining of wisdom, or even knowledge; knowing that the earth is round does not prevent our falling off the edge of it.

Both my Grandmas died before I really knew them, but the Grandpas were OK. The person that really spoiled me was my first MIL. Poor old dear is in a nursing home now and has been happily with the fairies for 10 years at 95. I always said that I got on better with my MIL than with my (ex)wife.
Cheers

Here's a linguistic oddity for you. In some circles, a kerchief folded diagonally and tied below the chin is called a "babushka." "Babushka" is Russian for "grandmother."

Only ever knew the one from my Fathers side as the other had long gone, remember when she was in her 70's chased me up the road and caught me.
I thought she was great because she would let have a free reign around the place and tell my parents to leave me alone.
She died after a fall when I was 19 or 20.
She had a sister who was as silly as a wheel and sent me baby booties for my birthday every year until I was about 18 (when she died).
Had one Grandfather from MOthers side, grumpy old bastard used to come over, fall asleep in the chair in front of the TV and fart, myself and younger brother didn't really like him that much, never gave anything away apart from a clip around the ear.Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

My grandma and grandpa basically bought me up till I was 7 or so, and I think they did pretty well at it. Mum was studying to be a nurse, then working along with having kidney failure. She did pretty good too.
Grandma went when I was 13, just a big heart attack and she was gone.
Grandpa is still going strong at 86, and doesn't look or act it.
The inlaws, only got a grandma there, but must think pretty highly of me. Not saying why exactly, but there's more than one reason. Used to have a great grandma, but she went early last year. She still made a pair of booties for the little fella at 100 and change though...
So the little fella has a full set of grandparents, a great grandpa and a great grandma, neither of which show any sings of dropping off the perch.
And his birthday is nowhere near any other gift giving days, so he gets a proper birthday and christmas.
Lucky little sod...
