In text pictures
Some of the most useful posts are WIP-style descriptions where the pictures are included full size in the text of the post along with the relevant text. This means that the picture can be viewed with the text and without having to scroll down to open the corresponding picture. The disadvantage is that the posts takes some time to downoad. This is acceptable on the initial readng, but is a pest when you are following the replies that are put up subsequently! I imagine that for those using a dial-up facility it would be quite frustrating.
I was wondering whether it would be useful if people could be given the facility to locate the thumbnails for attachments in the text, rather than grouped at the end of the post. This would give us the best of both worlds - as quite often the thumbnail pictures will be adequate to get the idea and later access to the post will not be affected by the pictures.
Any thoughts?
Jeremy

Jeremy, to put thumbnails of attachments into your posts first upload the attachments as normal using the "manage attachments" function. Then once you have done this put the cursor into the text where you want the picture to go. Now for the fun bit. In the menu bar above the text area there is a icon of a paper clip.Click on the arrow on the RHS of this and a drop down menu will appear allowing you to select an attachment to place in the text where your cursor is.
Have a nice day - Cheers

Thanks WB - I knew that it would be possible, it was just ignorance on my part.
Now all we need to d is encourage people to do this rather than put full size pictures in text!!!

This is a test.
I thought I would just try that out. I have been wondering how it was done.

Thanks for the info, WB, and the proof, Barry.
Pity I can't go back and edit posts where I also wanted just such a function... and it's been there all along?

I'll have a go.
But if I want to upload more than 5 pictures, does that mean I have to start a new post ? (seems to be the limit in the manage attachments)

I find the thumb's a PITA its nice to have the text under each picture rather than clicking another tab or whole page, if we keep the pictures around 50kb it shouldnt slow up dial'upers too much.
Some people still have large picture files for a simple pictures with little detail...
Dial'up is a just about dead now, ISDN is better for those who cant get BB, should we have a poll to see how many are still using it?....................................................................

Still a lot of places out in the sticks that can't get isdn or bb.
(or reliable mobile phone reception.)
People in those places are stuck with dialup as well as those on low incomes

For anyone out of ADSL or ISDN range they can get subsidised two way satellite for free installation and at reasonable rates now. They have a deal going at the moment with a Company called LISP until 31/4/07 for $14.95 month for the first 6 months or 3 month free and the after that it goes to $29.95 month. I got a leaflet in the mailbox and it says to quote promotion code GBP10007 or GBP10008.
http://www.lisp.com.au/
There are other companies around that do similar deals.
This is called Broadband Connect a government initiative.

Actually Harry ISDN is a single line but is digital and then is split into two lines in the ISDN modem and there is a limit on ISDN. DAMHIK. I have ISDN and I am 18 klms from the exchange and that is just about the limit from the exchange and I have a relay booster half way along the line to make it work.
Also people that are on what I think is called a ring setup can't have ISDN.
It costs to put ISDN on and out in the bush they have to clean up the line and remove all the loading coils from the PTSN line to make it into ISDN.
Where as 2 way satellite is free under the Broadband Connect setup and it leaves your phone line free for use while you are on the Internet same as ADSL
