Default road directions to hume highway requested.

I am shortly leaving Sydney and need to get on the Hume Highway going south to Albury NSW. I do not have an ETAG for my hired car.

Can anyone please tell me if the route tolls at the Sydney end are all payable by cash (toll booths),

Going from Sydney (what suburb?) you have the option of taking the Hume Highway or the M5 motorway
The M5 will cost you $3.80 and yes, cash is still accepted.

Once out of Sydney, both roads join up.

The Doom Dieway? Don't you still follow the line of white crosses and wrecked motor cars?

John, go towards the city, go under the harbour tunnel, stay on that road until you see a sign saying domestic airport to the right and Woolongong to the left.
    keep left.
Go under the runway tunnel and take the M5 exit on your left at the end of the tunnel and keep going till you reach Albury.

If you reach Wodonga you have gone too far.

Use www.whereis.com to work out your route. You have the option of choosing a route that avoids tolls or not.

    Hi Jow

I take it you are on holidays. If so what about head south towards wollongong and then cut across to the hume. No tolls and a pleasantish drive. You could even take in the National Park on the way down.

whereis.com.au is a great resource. Even gives travelling times.

    cheers

Yep there could only be two worse places than Sydney, Hell and Melbourne.

    Maybe Hell's not that bad.

BTW Jow when you get down to Albury be sure to spend a day down at the Rutherglen wineries especially if you like a good port, nice cheese factory also which is fortuituous

Probably correct, but Melbourne isn't one of them.

Glad to see you agree with me about Sydney though.

Jow you worry about E_Tags now wait till you hit melbourne , at least 95% + of the toll roads in N.S.W. and Sydney give you the option of paying as you go............ melbourne doesn't .
and as to the public transport do a check yourself as to the cost of day passes ( though why you need a day pass in melbourne where theres nothing to see and no wear to go ) mate you came to see Australia don't waist your time going south , when you leave Sydney Go North and enjoy the best that Australia has to offer.

If your able to make any sense of all of that nonsense, then once you get to Albury - give me a buzz and I might shout you a cuppa, and maybe even point you in the direction of some half decent wineries.
