    Question Shellac

    Gday to all,

I have just put my first coat of White Shellac down on Am Walnut and was wondering do I give it another coat????
If so how long between coats and do I have to sand between coats using shellac. Any help would be muchly appreciated.

    cheers

Give it at least 3 or 4 coats. I thin it down to about 50% with metho and apply using a pad, not a brush. If it's thin, it's easier to get smooth. I usually do a couple of coats within a few minutes of each other because it dries almost instantly. Before the final coat, I leave it an hour or so, then give it a very light sand (600 or 800) and then apply the last coat. I think ideally, this should be left longer before sanding but I'm an impatient bugger.

After that, I leave it 24 hours and then use some Ubeaut EEE on it.

best thing for you to do is get Neil's book.
