Villaboard ?
Hi all, I have a little job to do which involves the removal of a couple of VILLABOARD sheets which have ceramic tiles attached. Any one know of any health issues with this material. It looks like fibro but has the stamp "hardies Villaboard" all over the back of it.
Thanks in advance
Regards Mike

Yes Mike. All fiber cement sheets contain silica that you don't want to breath. Drilling, sawing or scraping should be done in accordance with their MDS sheets.
If the vilaboard was manufactured prior to 1989 (1985 officially) it may and probably does contain asbestos so extra precautions should be taken.
Have fun.

We have been using villaboard for years now in the plastering industry without any protective gear. Had no reports not even a hint of trouble.
Allowed on Union sites etc.
You have no need to be concerned with this product in my view. Particularly if you are only using it as a one off job. Chance of health issues maybe a zillion to one.
Mind you if using the produts every day I would take precautions, as I would with any material that gives of dust.
Cheers

Job Done
Thanks for the comments. Job done, wet the whole area, was able to remove the full sheets without much of a problem. No dust or any debri from removal so all is well. A close look at the stuff shows that it is it appears without fibre of any kind. It breaks up quite easly when wet. It was new in 1992 so should have no asbestos fibre in it but you could not really rely on that information.
I have been carefull in its removal so should not have or create any problems.
Kind Regards and Thanks
Mike.
