    Default 2.4 Litre Hilux Motor

The engine in my Hilux has croaked bigtime.
I don't think its worth pulling down.

So I need a 2.4 Litre Hilux Motor or a hilux wrecker

Any clues where to get one and cost?

I put on an ARB aftermarket suspension on my 80 series about 2 years ago and was told about all the mods I would need, the clowns were horrified when I said I 'didn't' want it jacked up off the ground 6 feet, just a nice suspension that won't sag and suitable for towing heavy loads, the same height as stock standard.
They just couldn't believe that I didn't want the wank pack.
What you can't get clowns to believe is that #1, high lifts make the vehicle unstable #2 high lift does not give ground clearance, unless you can get the diffs up a bit higher.

    Hi Bob

If you havent already grabbed the wreck

    AND

you are planning on keeping it for a goodly length of time check out a replacement long motor from Toyota. They almost halved the price of a lot of the hilux motors a couple of years back. Still not cheap but will do another 350k at least.

    cheers

    Bob,
it's possible to fit a holden V6 without upgrading the drive train, there;s a local mob here who's done countless conversions. I had one with a warmed up 3.5V8, standard drivetrain and the only problem I ever had in the 5 years I owned it was a broken rear half axle. Happened as I was chugging down the main street at a pedestrian pace, it's been known to happen with the standard motors too. There's a groove machined in the axle which takes a bearring retainer. The groove has square shoulders (stress point) and it just sheared through the groove. Mate of mine has a 4.2 V8 in his and has been hammering it for 15 years without any breakdowns.

It may be possible to buy a suitable new motor from one of the import places. I know that I can get a brand new motor for my current ute (Rodeo 2.8 diesel) from an importer on the gold coast, for less than what it would cost to get a full rebuild done on mine.
