Victorian Pool Deck Regs
The pool deck I've got to do is going to finish about 1400mm high so it'll need handrail or safety barrier etc.
So I have a coupla questions
Whats the minimum handrail height from the top of the deck?
Whats the minimum going on steps (I'll use 170mm rises)?

you are buildinga deck around a pool ???????? The regs want ( i think _ cant recall exactly) either 1200 or 1350 high fence and the rules change when fences and split level decks come into account. Be very careful about this as you wouldnt want a floater to appear then have the police asking questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Council will have regs brochure for you ( probly on net) I recently built one and was surprised at number of dimensions etc that have to be taken into account BUT it was all commonsense and worth while. Sometimes these rules are a bit over the top but in this case I think not."World's oldest kid"

My sincere apologies Bob. I've misread your post.
If it is the actual 'safety fence' [ to keep young tackers out ] then the height is 1200 with a few other items such as rails, spacings, clearances from the fence etc.
Gate latch height 1500.
If its a safety rail just for the 1400 height within an enclosed pool area, then 1000Peter Clarkson

There's also something about not having horizontal members close enough for kids to climb up and over the fence. The funny thing is that if it's on a farm somewhere, then it's likely to have a dam somewhere as well and they don't have to be fenced.
