Default bathroom reno pics and questions..

    Hey all

After lots of lurking on the forums I finally started our reno's by ripping out the original bathroom just before crimbo. Job took a bit longer than I expected but everything is nearly there, just some grouting, a visit from the plumber to finish things off, new glass for the window and fix up the hole in the ceiling from old lighting.

Luckily my father was over from the UK and was a great help especially his experience with tiling etc. It was on his advice I bought a better tile cutter (sigma 62cm) and have to say it was great to use.

Learnt lots and looking forward to moving onto the ensuite next month but have a few questions.

    1. Concrete renovators? We were told that we would need to take all the painted walls in the bathroom back to concrete using a concrete renovator before tiling. Is this really neccesary? I can understand getting something pourus for the glue but taking it all off was a bugger of a job took about 4 hours or so but not what you want to be doing on crimbo eve!

    2. vitrified porcelain tiles. anyone have a nice easy way of drilling holes in these puppies?

have included some picces, tiles were 300x300 on the floor and white gloss rectified 300x600 on the wall.

    Kind regards

    John

    Hi John

Very nice, I like the bath and the shower, I have similar set up in my ensuite - except I have an oval spa and the same color scheme - should not date.

It gave me a new idea for my next reno. It has a very small bath, but if I move the bath from the side wall to to end wall under the window I could probably fit a bigger bath in and use the plumbing from the vanity. Excellant!

Nice job on the bathroom there.

Gently tap with a sharp nail (or a centre punch) to scratch the surface and prevent the drill bit from sliding around, or you could stick a piece of duct tape to the tile to stop it sliding. Then drill very slowly with a sharp masonry bit, but don't have it on hammer. Alternatively if you've got a few bucks to splash out, buy yourself a diamond drill bit. They'll cut through it like a hot knife through butter.

oooo I love what you have done.

I love the black and white, and how you applied black stripes up the wall.

    It's gorgeous

For the shower, how are you putting on a screen? Are you using a glass door, or are you putting up a curtain?
