    Default The new deck

One of the blokes at work wanted a deck, so I offered to do it for him for a small fee. First deck I have done and I reckon it has come out OK. Still a few little things to do but they will get done "next year".

    Thanks

Looks great krico! What materials did you use and how much did you pay? Any plans to seal it coz it's close to the pool?

    Cheers,
    Mike

Decking boards are 70mm merbau with stainless domehead nails. Total cost for 60m2 was $3500. Deck is going to be oiled as that is what the owner wants.

What height is the deck? Did you need council approval for it?

It runs over a slight slope and the highest point above the ground is 600mm. Council approval was not needed (we did check though).

Wow, I hope when it comes time for me to do my deck it's a simple matter of just doing it and not needing council approval. I think I'll need it though as I'll be adding a roof over mine, it looks in your photos as though you already had the roof there.

Such modesty! Krico that's a job well done - your mate must be stoked. Isn't it amazing how a bit woodworking can turn a dingy alley dominated by a pool filter into a beautiful outdoor space. A+.

Hi krico. I'm building something similar to this and have a few questions. What sort of oil do you think best for use around the pool. I'm building around a saltwater spa and the deck will undoubtedly cop a few splashes.
Also, could you give a bit more detail on the nails you used i.e. timberlock(?), Length, cost etc.
Did you use a nail gun?

    Cheers,
    Mike

Been away with work for a while and have now nearly finished the upper part of the deck. Damn hard work as I had to jackhammer out the old concrete pation to get enough clearance.
