plastering holes

hi i've just skimmed my walls, and when it drys it leaves holes it looks like it sunk in. if any one can help it would be great .

If you're using a skim mix that you've mixed yourself, you may find you've added a bit too much water. As the water evaporates as it's drying there will be shrinkage. Which coat did this happen on? 1st, 2nd or 3rd?
The only thing to do is do it again. Dont skim to perfectly flat. Leave a little to account for the shrinkage and sand smooth when dry.

Was it like pin holes in the top coat?

If so just give it a light scrape back and go over again with a very thin to coat.

Some times they will sand out. It is common to get these pin holes, so you haven't done anything wrong.

They happen more often if you are skimming over a painted surface, Due to the surface being non porous.

When skim coating try to get it as flat and smooth as you can ALWAYS.

If you get pin holes etc it is easier to give them another swipe with top coat, than sand down an over filled or rough surface. I have just come home from sanding down walls that I skim coated at a mates house. Had exactly the same issue. It took less than 5 minutes to go over a couple of spots and it was dry enough to sand again in about an hour.

Rod, original post sounds more like sunken holes (maybe larger) than pinholes.

Maybe used an incorrect mix to do bulk filling & has shrunk too much?

Cornice cement to fill the bulk, then a thin skim coat to finish?
