Yes they are still around although we havent heard anything about them latley, maybe because the battle to control them is not being won.
I must try aspartame on my lawn.

Am going to trial this on small black ants which have decided that the laundry is a great place to visit. Will keep you posted!

Yep fire ants are still around and spreading despite the claims from DPI who are working hard to wipe them out. Sadly they are doing their best but they seem to be slowly advancing mainly caused by ignorance of a few people who think that they will cause ltlle harm. They need to be controlled or they will create havoc where ever they spread. I have done a couple of fire ant awarness courses and I am allowed to inspect for them prior to earthworks being carried out in fire ant areas.

As I said the big issue is people being ignorant to them thinking they will pose little or no harm. I refuse to buy potted plants from markets inside zones if people do not have their registration signs from DPI. The other thing people seem not to understand is that the fines for transporting them out of containment areas are there for a reason.

Hopefully we will keep on top of them and control them. I don't think we will ever wipe them out permantly but it would be a good thing. Fire ants are that bad in places through out the US that parks and yards can no longer be used. It would be good though if the fire ant and cane toad toad could wipe each other out, but i don't think that's gonna happen some time soon.
