Replenishing the wood stash
A friend has a heap of old shelter belt trees at her farm that she wants rid of. Being a kind soul I am, I offer to help
Macrocarpa is a bit of a lucky dip with every log, it might be NICE... if might be firewood. This one had a lot of nice timber and a heap of landscaping timbers and firewood
This is the tree coming down, sorry about the camera shake and wind noise, but you do get to see a big tree come down.

Picture 1 is the stump, the Dolmar has a 28" bar on it.
Pic 2 is dragging out the butt log, it was all the 12 ton digger could do to move it.
Pic 3 is the mill set up around the butt log.
Pic 4 is a closeup of one of the boards off the mill
Pic 5 is a couple of hours sawing loaded on the trailer to haul home.
Cheers

Nice stash of timber there mate. Decent log the 12 tonner was moving there as well. Reckon you will get enough timber there to last you for ages.
Dave,
hug the tree before you start the chainsaw.

That slab looks great.
Nice pick up Ian - sure you had to work for it but that machine made life a lot easier too.
It's also great when you only have to clear away the bits you want to keepCheers

Lots of trees around that I'd LIKE to cut, but it's a matter of getting lucky when a big old native or specimen tree comes down. Quietly hopes for a good storm this winter
I have a good stash of the Macrocarpa, they are common and can be had for the asking. Other suff I have in the shed is some bluegum Euc, it's not brilliant stuff, but if I pick through it I can get some good stuff out of it. Very different to working with the softwood I'm used to. Another is Lawsoniana cypress (Port Orford cedar), very light coloured and fragrent.
And of course as much Radiata pine as I can haul home... if I wanted to
Cheers
Ian
