where can I get sectioned/rebated timber from to make sliding sash windows (melbourne )

If you just use a stock, un-rebated section it will be cheaper. Put a fence on your saw and rip the rebate yourself, then use the off cut as a glazing bead and save yourself a bit more money.
You can leave the glazed edge and glazing bead square, or if you've got a router, you can put a fancy ovolo profile on it, or just splay it with a plane.
