Shed profit margin/ engineer cost
I'm looking at building a spring curved roof double carport, 2.4 at one side and 3.6m high at the other. I got a kit price quote of $6900. I've priced the steel myself at $3000. The only extra costs would be machine curving the 150mm C-Purlins and welding on base plates on the posts. The other costs would be engineering certification/design.
Does anyone know what sort of profit margin the shed companies work on and how much a engineer would charge to design this for me. I would probably make it double length ie 12m long by 6m wide which would cost me close on $14000 just for the kit! That's why I think I'd be able to do it cheaper.
Cheers

I dont know exactly but from shopping around myself for a shed and what I have read here on the forums, its a very competitive market and the profit margains on kit sheds/carports aint great.
I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car.

Yeah, that's what I thought but the problem is that I feel a curved roof might be attracting a premium... just cause its flash...

As JDub says there's not much profit in kit sheds, but as soon as you want something that isn't standard it is going to cost you because of the resources that have to go into one offs blow the budget. Actually I think you are fortunate to find some one that will do it for you.
Just the engineering alone would jump it up because most kit shed manufacturers have all their designs engineered once and the engineer will sign of on them once forever unless a council requests a signed complying certificate and then they usually charge $150 to $200 just for their signature on a piece of paper that says that the drawing they site meets the code.
How do I know. I sold and constructed sheds for a few years.

cheers Bazza,
I just got the quote back for a 11.7m by 7m carport - $11500 for materials only. I still think materials will be less than half that. I'll try to find a friendly engineer...
Cheers
