Barrel Hinge Markers

G'day All,
I've been having real trouble accurately mounting barrel hinges in small box lids or anywhere. I tried "story sticks" but still got inaccurate transfer of the hinge position, particularily with 5mm hinges. I thought of dowell markers, but the nearest size hole they fit is 6mm.
So here's how I made 6mm dowell markers fit a 5mm hole.
1. Centre marked a 50mm length of 19mm dowell.
2. Using superglue, mounted the pointy end of a 6mm dowell marker into the centre mark on the dowell.
3. Mounted the dowell into the scroll chuck of my wood lathe.
4. Whilst holding my breath (as usual) I set the lathe going and used a bastard file to grind the 6mm bit that goes into the hole down to 5.5mm
( take a breath) down to 5.2mm (one more breath) and finally down to 5mm.
5. Did another one, and tested the transfer of two 5mm hole positions to another bit of wood.
6. It worked.

inventiveness at its best mate but super glue? I reckon I've bought a million tubes of the stuff in my life and i can't recall it ever joining anything successfully. It always ends up in the bin - both the item being repaired and the bloody stupid super glue :confused: .

Me too usually, but I waited at least an hour before putting it on the lathe...(don't know why), and all went well until the fourth one....kept falling off. So I used Araldite for it.

and what would thay do with left over petro cemicals if we didnt use so many plastic bags ?
got offered a paper bag at the shop last week ,
said no , i want a plastic one ,
she said , " but this is bio degradable "
said no i want a plastic one , some one choped a tree down for 10 min use as a bag ??????? whats the world coming to

Nope. We went plastic so seals and albatrosses and turtles could choke to death on 'em when we chuck 'em away. You can use paper bags as mulch and that way they are returned to the earth.

prolly, but do people realise it takes 10 litres of water to produce one of those so called green environmentally friendly recycled plastic bags supermarkets sell for 99 cents?

This thread has been hijacked. Sorry. The barrel hinge idea is a beauty. I've got a lot of 5mm types so this solves a similar problem I had with them.
