Hard wearing floating floor

SWMBO is putting the pressure on me to get the lounge renovated and until I do the job Im not allowed out in the workshop so I guess Id better get the job started.

The plan is to lay a floating floor over an existing radiata T and G strip floor. A large part of the rest of the house has a 13mm floating floor laid but its a soft tropical wood that scratches if you look at it. I plan to replace this floor with same floor I use in the lounge.

Can anyone provide details of a really hard floating floor product (plantation timber preferred over tropical rain forest wood) and advice on a hard wearing finish for same would be much appreciated.

Someone on this BB is advertising vic ash flooring. Maybe also check with Studley to see when the next lot of stuff ex the Brisbane mill is due. I've seen blackbutt down, which looked and felt hard as.

Not a huge fan of floaters myself, however overlay fixed the existing floor would possibly be the go as well, in which case how hard would you like it to be.
Ironbark, both grey & red
Brusbbox, if you're lucky
Spotted Gum, yeah
Blackbutt (coastal)
Northern Beech
Tallowood
to name but a few which I know for sure are availiable in 12 or 14mm overlay with secret nail profile.

I haven't seen a good floater yet.
The stuff from Big River does not impress me at all.
The wood just looks wrong. Must be from peeling rather than sawing.

Yeah Im not that keen on floating floors after the "professionals" did my dining area. So maybe I should rip up the stuff and replace it with secret nailed strip flooring? Its tempting because Ive really developed a hatred for the floating floor...
