Default Concreting a pole into the ground

I am about to concrete a 100 x 100 RHS galvanised pole in the ground.

The hole is 1 metre deep and the pole is 6 metres long which will make it 5 metres high.

I would like to keep it as high as possible as it will have two spotlights on it, one lighting the pool and the other lighting the poolside entertainment area. The higher they are the less chance of havimg to look into one.

What sort of mix should I use for the concrete?

    Cheers, Jack

3 course sand, 3 gravel and 1 cement.

Course sand is not brickies (bush type) or sydney(beach type) sand. When you use the course sand as opposed to the other two, you get a mix identical to what the concrete companies deliver.

I know this because I have a plant a couple of kilometres from me where I pick up the sand if Im mixing small batches.

A tip is to add the water in small amounts when mixing.

    Hope that answers your question.

    Jack,
check the back of the cement bag, I'm pretty sure 3:2:1 (aggregate:sand:cement) is common. I get my sand and aggregate pre-mixed and go 5:1. Don't forget to weld one or more bits of Y-bar or angle onto the the post to help hold it into the footing.
