    Angry Speak English fat pig.

Today I took my daughter out to Chinatown. “To see some Chinese” she said. It was a great day, we caught the bus, the train, we had lunch and I bought her something under $2 for $3.

Anyway, while waiting for a bus to get home at the train station. A woman, late 30s early 40s, was asking someone for direction. An old lady, 60ish, Greek Italian-ish, walked by. This woman asked her where the shopping centre was. This old lady must have something else in her mind or for whatever reason she ignored the woman and kept walking.

Feeling cheesed off this woman said 4 words (see title) to the old lady.

I was going to say something to her but she already left.

Exactly how bad have we become. Is it the best we can do to each others?

    It is terrible.

    no, I have seen worse.

Did she look like an Ice junkie?
Was it a Sunday morning? They usually start coming down on a Sunday, especially if they've run out

Not become. Always were. I do think the dumb, ignorant brigade is becoming fewer and fewer though.
It still is saddening when they open their mouths and you are forced to listen to their vitriolic rants.

    Scott,

Your Cantonese must be getting a bit rusty, or perhaps you need a hearing aid; she was clearly saying "Gong hei fatt choy".

    Don’t start rocky.

Seriously how can anyone be so rude? The poor old lady has done nothing to her. It is just not necessary.

I still can’t get over it.

I'm just wondering why the late 30s woman said what she said when the Greek-looking other woman said nothing - presumably she thought that the reason that the latter had ignored her was lack of English. Which is weird.

I fail to respond to questions asked of me for all sorts of reasons - usually due to the fact that I am thinking of something else. I can't wait to be accused of a lack of English language skills by this person or someone like her - this will be an opportunity for using some of the riper language that I have acquired over the years - all good Anglo-Saxon stuff - to tell this ignorant dill where she can get off.

    Cheers

Can appreciate your upset - but what about your daughter? - did you end up having/trying to explain the situation?

Just another reason why I'm not a fan of "big" cities - when I walk down the street here most people at least give you a nod and or smile - some are obviously not locals but are quickly educated by the locals.

She was too busy with her $3 hello kitty mirror.

It actually happened behind us. The reason why I looked back was to offer help as someone needed a direction.

Still now sure if the old lady was lack of English language skills. She was walking with her head down, minding her own business. She probably missed her completely and I don't think she heard the rude remarks either.

I wouldn't worry about some foul mouthed slag (slag = hardened dross) flapping her gums.

One of the more amusing incidents I have heard of happened in front of a friend of mine. He was in a deli in a strongly Italian area which happend to be full of elderly Italian women. Needless to say, most of the ordering was being done in slightly antique Italian.

One of the LOL's then asked the woman serving her what part of Italy she came from. The reply was, 'Oh, I come from Greece' - and the LOL replied 'One face, one race' - the shop collapsed in laughter leaving the LOL a bit stunned - seems 'One face, one race' was part of Mussolini's propaganda for invading Greece (unsuccessfully) in WW2. The Greek woman serving at the counter didn't even blink, but all the ex-pat Italians had a great laugh.
