Well I guess it's all out in the open now. It was my post, which was deleted and I incurred the wrath and an official infraction which stirred up the hornets nest.
I have had a discussion via PM with Stuart regarding this, not a dummy spitting, toy throwing argument, but a civilised discussion.
I find the comments regarding the requirement of a thicker skin interesting, as I made the same comment to Stuart.
I have never abused, belittled, or berated a moderator. I do carry on with time wasting waffle. It is this waffle which attracted me to the forum, and which kept me coming back. The change in moderation style now sees me skimming more, reading less and rarely posting.
I absolutely respect Neils decision to run the board as he sees fit, obviously with the exponential growth he is doing something right. For me however things get a bit dull round here, and any effort to lighten it up is stamped out.
This is not a whinge, I'm not leaving, I am however looking for a sense of humour to hand out to some deserving members, perhaps when I found some I can donate them for the weekly draw.Boring signature time again!

There's not too much to complain about from that point of view. It's fairly clear from some of the comments made that the "drivel" is not particularly welcome. So far it is tolerated - why have a formal 'Friday Thread', Open Slather, Nothing to do with Woodworking if it is not?
I guess it's more of a problem in the hierarchy's mind when the 'real' threads get clogged up with it. Personally, I don't care if it gets deleted. I came here to post about woodworking related things. I have an interest in woodworking and in building, which I'm happy to post about. I also have a sense of humour, like to get on a soapbox every now and then, and like to take the p!ss out of people and situations. So far, that has been tolerated and I am thankful for it.
If this situation changes, well, I will continue to post about woodworking and building but I will miss the humorous exchanges and general larikinism that goes on and I will miss the characters who leave because it's "not fun any more". Mostly...
If it changes, then I guess people will still come here to post about woodworking etc. But I recall more than a few comments from people who have experienced other forums that make me think that there might be more to this forum than the woodwork related content which makes it popular. I could be wrong.

You're not wrong, and we are all here for similar reasons, and not just woodworking related ones.
Ever tried reading a majority of the threads posted in just one day? faroutkinghell!
I for one, read threads with titles of interest to me, and watch out for suspect titles acorss the forums, with the knowledge that if it does get out of hand somewhere, the forum itself tends to react (reporting the post etc), so I know where to look to see what (if anything) needs to be tidied up. So in a very real way, everyone here is a moderator, and by reporting a post or by having a go at a post that you don't agree with, you are keeping the forums in a state that you want them to be.
Just because a few of us have the ability to alter / delete posts etc, doesn't mean we are the only ones who influence how our community functions. The fact that this place works so well is a credit to all members, not just the few mods/admins."Clear, Ease Springs"

Yeah Outback, get into line.... right behind me & Benny.
I agree that there is a fair amount of regulation/moderation from the general members too.
I report spam as soon as I see it.
If somebody posts in the wrong area, they are told fairly quickly by the other members.
If somebody posts something that others don't agree with or think is not good advice, they are also told fairly quickly by the other members.
If somebody posts something funny or off topic, it is fairly quickly added to by the other members.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

What happened to this thread? It started off as a light handed jest and quickly deteriated into heavy apologetic mess.
Neil, I can't imagine what the pressures running this BB must be, but your reactions do seem a tad over the top sometimes. Besides some tastless humour I don't think anyone was mocking the Mods or your decision to appoint them?
I feel like I have just put my neck on the chopping block... I shouldn't have to feel that way.
