    Default Attic roof trusses

Has anybody some experience to share with attic roof trusses.

I've been stressing about this for months but I'm going to have to bite the bullet or remain roofless! What are the pitfalls (apart from the additional cost)?

    Thanks

welcome to the forum - I need more information as I can't work out if you intend to build an attic space, or.......one thing though; When I built the two mezzanines at my place, I didn't use trusses as they didn't give me the height..... I used 200X50 Douglas Fir rafters. More detail please.

    have fun

Actually I'm building an extension and about to buy new attic trusses. i've talked to five truss makers so far and got six different designs. each claims that their design is iaw the framing code but make comments that raise concerns about each other's design.

Wondering whether anybody has good/bad experience with attic trusses that I could be midful of.

Most interesting idea so far is a pair of half trusses on the outside with hyspan joist and a scissor truss in the middle. Sounds complicated doesn't it but it will give me 2.4m to 2.7m headroom over 3.6m within an 8.6m span.

Why not conventional framing? Well with a rise of 3.1m the collar tie should be at about 1.6m to 1.8m with 100x50 Oregon rafters. I'd bash my head. Unless I'm misreading the framing code.

I dont think you'd use 100X50 but say, 150-180 X 50 LVLs. Then you could marry them together using an arched tie if height is an issue. with the trusses, wont the collar tie result in less height than the method I mentioned?

I am no builder...and this may prove it.... but homes with attics have been built for many years before gang nailed 90X45 trusses were around.

I would be keen to see that truss confirguration you mentioned.....sounds familiar but I cant quite get my brain around it at 11:30 pm.
