Paintng Laminex

Just a quikie for the gurus,

As a cheap update for kitchen benches and cupboards only to last a short time has anyone had much to do with painting laminex surfaces.

Just not sure on the ease and quality of the finish.:confused:

We did a quick update on our kitchen when we moved in to get rid of the mission brown cupboards and light brown benchtop. It was intended as a quick fix as in your situation. This was four years ago and it still looks good.

The product that we used was the White Knight Laminate paint which can be purchased at bunnies. There is a cleaning product, undercoat and then top coat. I cant recall the exact price but I think for a little over $100 we painted all cupboards.

We did replace the benchtops as we also changed over the cooktop and oven, sink and added another cupboard. I cant comment on how the paint would hold up on the benchtop.

It is as easy to apply as any paint, a good finish would be easily obtainable by using good quality brushes, sanding lightly between coats, and taking your time. My finish was letdown slightly by poor quality rollers which left a little fluff.

Overall I am happy and would recommend jumping for it if you require a quick update.

Paj, there's product out there by a crowd called White Knight called Grip-Lock Primer which worked for me on some Ikea stuff, and more recently on Melamine (had to match the white stuff to an existing cupboard). It seems to do the trick. Give the surface a rough-up first.
