Hi All

Just a query for interest sake.

In the simplified (non-cyclonic) version of the farming code there are a couple of design limitations. One is a maximum roof pitch of 35 degrees. Does anyone know the true reason for this? My guess is it is just so they can define the load split between walls and ridge etc. but I'm interested to know if there is anything else at play?

Maybe Bracing and tie downs as well as potential addittional loading on walls, usually the engineers designs which are required for anything outside the scope of the manual are similar to the requirement of the framing code. I guess the code would get to big if it considered everything without leaving some of it to be addressed via engineering principles.

I'm fairly certain that the max pitch is just to define the scope of the code. In other words, if you want to build something outside the scope, you need an engineer.

Yeah ... fair enough. From what I have seen building surveyors will require and engineers approval for any work of reasonable extent, which isn't a bad thing in most cases.
