Nissan Navara

I am considering buying a new Nissan Navara twin cab, does anyone out there have any experience with these vehicles that they might share with yours truly? :confused:

I remember when the new Navara came out (2 years ago??) the motoring press put the boot in as it wasn't up to standard, and sub-par to others like Mazda B series, Toyota Hilux, Mitsu Triton, etc.

Not read anything about them lately.

Hilux or Mazda B would be my pick.

The Hilux has stood the test of time and Gov departments use them as they go the distance.
I spent some time with a conservation department and the Navara's failed after about 20K, the Hilux lasted about 80K.
Not bad when you saw the way these vehicles were misused and abused, eg: 80kph on bush tracks that I would negotiate in my vehicle at no more than 20kph etc etc.
Having said that, I believe that NIssan have improved over the past few years but don't be mislead by a pretty makeover.

The Rodeo is the best of the lot. Did 400,000 plus up in the Flinders/Gammon Ranges in SA and towing a tandem trailer - an absolute ripper.

An associate also had a Rodeo - he lived and worked in the pastoral country and replaced it with a Rodeo.

And the latest intercooled turbo gives even greater pulling/motoring power and economical too.

With the ordinary turbo, I was carrying/towing nearly 3 tonnes of livestock in very rugged country and then about 800kms (on average) bitumen work and getting 21-23 miles per gall or whatever the metric equivalent is.

Whatever you decide, have a good look at the GM Rodeo. The Isuzu (?) motor is bullet proof.

Just sold my Rodeo today, bloody magic bus but a new'un is way outside my price and also the new one is as ugly as Kim Beasley. My Rodeo was a space cab, great thing but no room for the Grandmonsters unfortunately. I have been told that second choice is the Nissan due to the mechanicals, it is rated to tow 3 tonne while the Rodeo is only rated for 2. Yesterday I cornered a local who has just had his work Rodeo swapped for a Navara and while he is a "Rodeo man" he was full of praise for the Nissan. I have a Ford Courier in the shed at the moment, my fatherinlaws', it is a shocker! No leg room, uncomfortable and their reputation for eating gearboxes is not encouraging. I have always liked the Hiluxes but they seem just too truck-like to be comfortable on a long trip, and I do a few of those, add to that the fact that they have a tendency to lay down and rest on their door handles.
I guess I am really a Rodeo man at heart but can't afford one, bugger!

Ain't it the truth that just when you discover something that tickles your fancy,you notice the price tag.
Something about tastes and money.
Don't fret though,Nissans are tough cookies and usually good value for money.

Crazy thing is that with discounts etc on new utes at the moment it is very little more money to buy new, in fact I can buy a new Navara cheaper than a low Km. second hand one! The second hand one has done 10,000 km. and has a rollbar thing, electric windows and bloody carpet. Who needs carpet in a ute? The new one has a canopy and a towbar which the 2nd hand one hasn't. The only current model Rodeo 2nd hand that fitted my needs (sort of) was over $40,000, all the rest had too many k's or were petrol motors.
All too confusing for an old fart!
I shall now go to bed and dream of lotteries and Land Cruisers...
