I know it's been avaiable in beta for a while but...
IE 7 is now generally available.
I just downloaded it. It seems alright but like FF it doesn't open a new tab for anything on your favorites list. At least with FF though you cand hold down CTRL while you click to open a new tab. With IE it appears that you have to open a new "blank" tab first.
Oh well, it's an improvement over IE 6 anyway.

Been using it for a couple of months, both at home and at work. The only downside so far is that the beta (latest release) doesn't really handle authentication with packages like SAP, so there's a work-around that fiddles with the registry (automatically) and makes it seem like IE6. Apparently a SAP issue rather than IE.
I must say it's much better than IE6, but then it wouldn't have to be that great to be better, eh?

With what, Midge?
Tabs? I found it invaluable when on dialup, could "queue" up a heap of tabs & have them loading as I was reading ones loaded earlier.
Still find it good to keep a main page on one tab, then load links, posts, whatever on following tabs. Better I reckon than going back & forth to the same page, especially if exploring a heap of links, forum posts or whatever.
Cheers............Sean

Gees........you guys!
Go to Mozilla.org & look for an extension called 'Tab Mix Plus' You can customize what opens, closes & a heap of other things with it for FF.
HERE is a link to the pdf help file that explaines everything it does.
I couldn't live without it now!!!

With IE?
It seems to me that Microsoft are just continually playing catchup, still haven't quite figured out how to make their browser standards compliant, and there are a few others out there that do the whole thing a heap better.
Just an observation, I only keep access to IE to see how my web pages look in it.
Oh gee golly by gum, tabs!! wow!! I wonder why no one else thought of that three years ago!! Sorry, but that's what I meant... MS have this wonderful way of copying, then letting everyone believe it's a really new and really good idea!
Having said all that, IE accounts for 55% of all traffic visiting sites for which I have access to data, so there is a certain level of comfort, but the many sites which are optimised for IE are obviously missing out on half the traffic they could be getting!
Cheers,
P

Yes Maaaajoooor, I have a Mac, but I know that most of the bods crawling my sites don't, which just gives me one headache I don't need, making them work for all .
Here are the overall figures for PDRacer.info (although today's figures when viewed separately have patterns which match Oz's almost exactly - MSIE at 72%!)
MSIE 6.0 -55.00%
Firefox 1.5.0 37.00%
Opera 8.50 - 4.00%
Mozilla 5.0 - 2.00%
Safari 1.2 -1.00%
MSIE 5.23 - 1.00%
I don't actually care, but I am curious as to why the other browsers aren't used more?
Cheers,
P (using an old IE version to overcome Oz's password requirement!)

Midge, do you use the IE view extension in Firefox? Seems to work well.
Al, I need your login & password for Treasures on Plenty, seems to be popping up on this page each time ??
(used work offline & lotsa button pressing to get around )
Cheers.............Sean
