    Default Finishing Redgum outdoors

    Hi

I have read all previous posts on finishing redgum but none of these relate specifically to redgum that is out in the elements.

I have cut to size a redgum slab for an outdoor benchtop. It will be exposed to the weather all year round. I would appreciate any advice on firstly how to finish it (the only advice I've received so far is throw as much organoil on it as possible) and secondly, how to secure it to the brick base without screwing through from the top.

    thanks

    Bozo

    Ok Bozo

To secure it to the brickwork I used some angle cut to length and held onto the bricks with green rawlplugs and appropriate sized screws and then just screwed into the red gum from underneath. If you are against a wall you could go into that as well for added stability. Does not need to be over the top because it should only have downward pressure with negligable sideways pressure at all. Just to be safe I used stainless steel screws to avoid corrosion.

If you are never in over your head how do you know how tall you are?

Hi Mark, had a look at the Livos www.energyandwatersolutions.com.au/oil/oils.htm range today,Ecowood Garden Furniture Oil maybe what you are after, I imagine it would be high maintenance though. Our local agent is Colours by Nature 02 6238 2011, might be a good idea to call and talk to Don or Sharon.
