    Default Cost of front gates

    Cost of front gates
<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->I would like to get some new front gates installed. The one's of tubular steel which look like the oldtime wrought iron ones. They would be around 6ft high with posts installed to hang them from.

My current gates are weld mesh but there is little clearance to park a car on the footpath to close the gates. Also, it slopes a bit back to the gates and you really need to make sure the handbrake is on so the car doesn't roll when closing the gates.

My idea is to swing the mesh gates inwards to create a recessed gate entry.
Fix the mesh panels to a couple of posts, and top it off with a couple of fancy entry gates.

Any ideas on what it could cost? I have ordered a quote from Elite fencing but I have absolutely no idea is its going to be $5k or $500.

Just had a mile of balustrade made for the verandah of our extension - well about 28 metres worth. Local fencing mab made them from steel tube, powder coated, and price was $59.50 a metre. They made 11 panels, to be fitted between the oregon posts, supplied the brackets and screws. This is 900mm high. I would reckon of you go about it the same way it shouild not cost more than a couple of hundred. Depends a bit on what the gates are hinged onto and how high you need to go, but I would reckon maybe $70.00 a metre, plus latch, hinges and mounting bolts should see you in the vicinity of $200 - $250.00.

Preliminary guess by Elite over the phone is $700 up to the sky is the limit, depending how fancy. This would include gst, installation, and mounting/latches hardware. Will let you know a proper figure next week after the inspection.

I'd quess $250 -$280 / Lm if they are standard design. I usually work on $185/m for 1.2 m tubular pool type fencing.

We've decided to swing the existing gates open and use them as panels, screwed onto new posts. The existing gates are steel frame (inch square pipe type), with inch square weldmesh. The gates are covered in a jasmine vine and it is in full flower. The perfume is strong. I didn't want to get rid of the vines so they are staying, and can continue their growth over the gates when fixed as panels.

From the new posts, another set of mesh panels will be added, to give a good recess to cover a truck, or car and trailer. Then posts at the end and a flash set of tubular aluminium gates around 5ft high, with fancy insets in each. The gates will be white so anyone driving in during bad light will see, the gates aren't just open at the front, there is a recessed gate! Brakes would be nice.

When we go off on hols, the original gate panels can be unscrewed and swung back to being gates again. This should stop any undesirables hanging around the front recess to see if we're out.

Costs, all up including installation and gst, are $2,190. They will be installed in 4wks time.
