    Angry Drama

If anyone can offer advice it would be appreciated, I have just had a new house built and it has Merbau windows and sliding doors which did look wonderful until the brick cleaner came through with his acid wash, now they all have black stains on them where the acid/water pooled and was not rinsed off, any ideas would be appreiciated. Thanks

My approach then would be to the builder and ask him what he is going to do about it and then take it from there. Next question is have you taken possession of the house yet. If not it is really up to the builder to make good before giving occupation.

Thanks Bazza, builder has no idea what to do, my suggestion was to pull them all out and replace them, he didn;t like that idea. He is thinking of using some acid product on them which he thinks might work, time will tell I suppose. Thanks for the reply.

    Hi Dals

Get some legal advice before taking possession if its not fixed. Also if he does 'fix' it get a warranty in writing from him that it the repair will be covered for a reasonable period.

    good luck

Oxalic Acid works well particluarly if the stain is caused by iron in the chemicals.

Like the others indicated, it doesn't seem to be your problem although it is disappointing as you are looking forward to moving in to your new place and this has happened.

Not an expert here by any means, but our builder is coming this week for the final inspection of the extension he has recently finished on our home. There were a couple of very minor niggles we had, and he told us that he will have them made good before he sends us the final bill (ouch!!). He said that it was his responsibility to ensure that ALL work was finished to our satisfaction. He has to get the plumber back to fix a leaking gutter, and one of his tradies to come and adjust sliding doors, and a few other tiny things. My point is that he said that it is the builder's responsibility to make things right.
Consumer affairs can point you in the right direction for advise and action - they have a 'builders' adviser who can explain your rights etc over the phone. Actually when I rang them, they redirected me to another department, but I suggest starting with Consumer Affairs.

Good luck - that must be really annoying and very disappointing for you.
