arghhhhhhh......... calling myself all sorts of names....
NEVER do a job late at night when you're tired....
was spray varnishing some ornaments and some puzzle backgrounds I had painted...... came back for second coat, turned the ornaments, reached for the can and gave the painted piece a generous spray...... THEN I realized I had grabbed the spray adhesive!!!
Talk about panic. Does anyone know what I SHOULD have done?
What I did was grab solvent.... it did help a little, but left some whitish areas and when checked close a few bubbly areas on the painting.
Can't sand over the paint, but got the rest sort of fixed. Next morning I noticed some of the ornaments were a bit tacky too..... grrrrrr.....
Adhesive doesn't take well to sanding....
NEVER EVER LEAVE SPRAY ADHESIVE NEXT TO VARNISH!!!!!

Have you tried white spirits aka home drycleaning fluid takes all sticky stuff off & shouldn't trouble your finish. the usual care though, try a test bit first. Can get it at most hardware stores.

Try metho, should not hurt your paint but may be a solvent for your glue.

Had a mate in a hurry to go out Saturday night on a date with his girl friend, I'm waiting in the car whilst he gets changed as we were running late fixing the car to go out.

He picked up green pressure pack he had been using on a model instead of deodorant not only was he a mess but in pain as we tried to wash the enamel off under his arms.

At least you didn't put a coat of undercoat over the gloss (instead of another gloss coat) you put on yours sons dingy

Oh I love this forum..... you guys made me feel a lot better. Good to know I'm not the only one doing dumb stuff.... Ken couldn't believe I came in here and told on myself.... ( think he's not going to admit I'm his other half soon)
I figure it's a chance to get good advise and why not give everyone a chance of a good laugh?

By the way .. I did kind of ruin the picture project... the white was worse looking today, but then I remembered a product send to use over a year ago.... it's a glue remover... add a few drops, take the included plastic scraper and voila.... glue's gone.... now that worked on the outside edges of the ornaments ... but would't work on anything with tiny curves and stuff.

if it was common or garden rubber bassed contact cement there is a variety of things that will shift it.
Any sort of vegitable or fruit oil.... or mineral oil for that matter.
Turps, kerro.... diesle fuel.
you are looking for something that will soften the glue and not effect the underlying paint finish.
Then think about haow you get that solvent off.

Citrus oil would be a good thing to try.

it there isn't much, wait for it to dry a bit and rub it off with your fingers.

Metho..... it can attack all sorts of things that you don't expect it isn't the inocuous substance lots of people think it is.

besides shellac I can't think of any

No I don't have a list but, nitro laquer, cretain plastics a whole variety of inks and stains and ....... some glues.
