    Default Roof Sheeting Layout/Starting Point

I'm about to install my roof sheeting (Custon orb) on my house that I'm building. I'm wondering is there any particular location that I start from with the first sheet, ie:
    1. starting in the middle of the overall lenght and working out? or
    2. starting at one end of the ridge (ridge/hip junction) working along the ridge first and then down the hips?

    Thanks in advance.

If you have a gable roof just start at one end and begin laying the sheets so that the laps face away from the main weather direction. You fix the first sheet so that each susequent sheet is laid on top of the previous sheet.

Fix only the laps first and measure every couple of sheets to ensure you are keeping them parallel from ridge to gutter. Once the whole roof is fixed go back over and fix all the other screws. Make sure you remove all the swarf from the screws by sweeping down the roof or you will end up with rust spots all over your roof when it rains.

If it is a hip roof start your first sheet at the point where the hip meets the ridge ensuring the sheet is square to the ridge again laying the laps away from the main weather direction again measuring to ensure you are keeping them parallel because if you don't keep them parallel you will end up with a fanning effect on the roof and a saw tooth effect along the gutter..

If you have all the sheets for the hip roof the same length the offcuts down the hip should be used on the diagonally opposite hip all around the roof. If you have valleys in the roof offcuts should fit on hips and vice versa.

You should use an electric screwdriver with a nose cone on it so that you get even tension on all screws other wise you roof can become very noisy when the sun goes behind a cloud. Another thing to reduce the noise is to at least use sarking under the roof to reduce the tension between the roofing and the roof battens and a better option is to use 50mm blanket and foil with the blanket uppermost and the foil facing the roof space.

    Hope this clear and consise.
