    Unhappy 12 Volt Halogens Earth??

Ok.. Scenario,3 wire cable active neutral and earth going into a 240 to 12 volt transformers which feed the 12 v halogens. There is a provision for the ac but nothing for the Earth. It cant feed into the transformer so does it stay floating? (doubt it) or taped back onto the cable? whats the go. my electrician recons the previous owners shouldnt have done it that way, ok i agree where does the earth wire end up?? No bare copper should be visible.

he didnt tell me how its to be done as he wants 50 bucks a light to "fix" if there is anything wrong in the first place. At the moment the green earth wire is taped back onto the cable

Your sparky is right, it is not the best way. One way is to have a loop at each light and strip the white sheath, leaving the insulation undamaged. Then strip the active and neutral and wire into the transformer. The earth is then continuous and undamaged. Technically the sheath protection should be reinstated with electrical tape. The other option is to connect the earths with a two screw terminal and wrap with electrical tape. At the last fitting, cover with a screw terminal and tape with electrical tape.

Yep, I've got no time for people who aren't helpful. Some tradies don't realise that a good DIYer will make their job easier, not harder

some DIYers don't realise that they should stop trying to save a buck when it comes to electricity

    Q. What's black, crispy and hangs off your light fitting?

    A. DIY, non-qualified electricians.

LOL! More like an extremely stupid person - qualified or not - see darwin awards.

Dont most electrocutions occur to people doing nothing at all with electricals - live roofs, live steel framing, kitchen appliances etc - generally things that werent grounded untill someone leaned on them (sometime after a rat went to rat heaven)
