Cost to install Downlight
Hi everyone,
My specs for the new extension have batton lights included....I want downlights and the sparky reckons it will be $35 extra per downlight which is to install and supply the downlight.
Since he will doing the wiring already as part of the contract (but not downlights) it seems expensive to me.
Can anyone offer advice here...i have a nagging feeling he is trying to rip me off.
cheers

G'day Cobber
In regard to the specs of having battons to downlights are you replacing the same amount or will there be more downlights. If there are more downlights you must remember that you will be running more cable and he also has to drill the holes in the ceiling as well. I don't think he his trying to rip you off. Don't forget that suppied and installed normally includes all the cables as wellCheers

Mate going rate for S&I in Canberra is $75ea which whilst v exp - it's what you pay. $35 is ok unless he is using the $7.95ea Bunnos versions... get something with quality.

$ 35 is OK, retail is about $10 with transformer and they take about 15 minutes each to install

Thanks everyone. Im talking about a new building addition here. As part of the contract the electrician is going to install new light (batton) so will be doing all the cabling etc. He says its $35 extra to install the downlight and supply. I thought it was expensive b/c the cabling he is already doing anyway...so is there much difference b/w installing standar batton lights and downlights...I assume the cabling is the same apart from the transfomer etc.
Cheers

If the sparky is installing a downlight, he might also have to install a junction box to accomodate the wiring to the transformer depending on how the batten holder is wired up, Plus drilling the hole etc.
I dont think he is ripping you off, and probably not worth the risk of upsetting him over
