many boaties import echo sounder/ gps combo units successfully for the same reason. What costs $1,800 in Oz costs about half (in $AUD) in States. Makes ya spit chips funding some aussie offshoot of yankee manufacturer. AND they don't offer any preferential service if purchased locally, I know coz i've been there.
Watch the warranty clauses (talk to your local husky dealer as someone suggested - damn good idea), some manufacturers will not offer worldwide support, have to return to US for repair.
As others have stated choose your carrier carefully to ensure you're not paying over the odds for duty, taxes etc.
Quick call to customs will find out best way to get it into country.
I reckon surface mail, even if it takes a few weeks. Also talk to the US dealer, see if you can get names of other aussies who have purchased from them and contact them for reference.
good luck

If you have a mate in America that can forward one you might be able to do a bit better on price. There's another store that has these saws for $599.00, but does not ship to international customers. You could get your costs down below $900 Aus with a little shopping around and accepting the 3 months surface mail.
