Had an argument with my MIL the other night on why is it so crucial that the census has to be done on Tuesday night. I understand the idea of having a snapshot of the nation. It just doesn’t make sense to have to done it tother in 1 night.

Would the nation as a whole be any difference if the information is collected over 1 night or a period of say 7 days? Probably not. The truth is not everyone will do it tonight anyway. So why are they so anal about it? Why can't we be given a week to complete it instead of changing our plans or missing out?

Because it is supposed to include anyone who stayed under your roof on Tuesday night. So say someone comes to your house tonight and stays and then goes home tomorrow, where do they do the census? They only want to capture each person once. It also gives them a statistic on how many people have house guests. Call yourself a mathematician? Pah!!
