pebble garden
Due to the ever shortening supply of water, and the fact that I hate to use a lawn mower. I am about to redo the lawn and turn it into a stone garden when I lay the various stone (pebbles) do I mix in some sort of concrete etc to pack them in

No!
Hi, if I were u I will not use any concrete just because it will impossible do do changes!! Also I will use PEBBLES!! Also there are pavers that u can use and use sand to fill in gaps that way it is packed and still loose if you know what I mean! Good luck!!

Do a Google on ZEN gardens. Some are quite magnificent - but hugely labour intensive if you really want the proper effect. The pebbles must be raked every day...

Hi Gary
I love pebbles - but some pebbles are horrible to walk around on because they don't compact down into a tight matrix (but maybe that is something you like). Also, depending upon the pebble size, you might have issues with leaves and other muck getting caught in the surface, or getting stuck in shoes.
We are putting down a large area of pebbles, those are just a couple of problems we have found in choosing the mix.
Cheers

pebble size matters
i did the pebble thing a few years ago because i loved the Zen look, too....and still curse myself. i am still walking them into the house in my boots. and so does the dog. be careful the size. the little 10mm ones will come in with you always. go for the 20mm ones and you'll love 'em but they're harder to rake...
