Nissan ST-X v Mitsubishi GLS
gday all,
Following on from the other thread, bodgy's i think?
Im thinking of getting a 4x4 dual cab and cant quite make up my mind between the 06 Navara or the 06 Misubishi.
specs go like this, GST inc:
Navara 128 kw 2.5 lt diesel 45990 + onroads
Mitsi 118 kw 3.2 lt diesel. 48999 + onroads
I do a lot of highway driving so in your opinion which would best suit me and perhaps somebody can explain the kw difference between the 2 even tho the mitsi has a bigger engine.
Can anyone help,

When doing all my research, I junked the Mitsu cause all the reviews pointed out that it's engine was very old technology. It was it's fatal flaw. Shame cause I generally have a high regard for the make.
Goggle, say, Mtsu, road tests, and you'll see.Bodgy

I would broadly agree with Bodgy, but would note that some engines are tuned more for torque (N/m) than power (Kw). However, a modern common rail diesel will be much more efficient.

For fifty grand you could have a new one tonner for carrying things and an older 3 series Beemer for driving on the highway! :eek: :eek: :eek:

There's a special advertised on the telly ATM 06 st-x/r? Navaras for $32999 check them out

PS I research the bejeebas outa all the current models late last year, after test drives & bartering you know where I ended up.

Steve,the Navarra has a 3 litre (not 2.5) diesel. Also the thing to watch with engine specs is not just the final figures of how much power or torque. Knowing at what revs the power or torque is developed is important too. It's also very important to know how "fat" the torque and power curves are. That is, some motors may have impressive power figures but only develop them at high revs and develop next to nothing till you get high up in the rev range (very "skinny" power curve). Thus a vehicle that looks good on paper may be outperformed by one with "lesser" specs. Going for some extended test drives which include some steep hills will give you a better "seat of the pants" feeling for the real useable power and torque.

The nissan is a 2.5l common rail diesel in the new model whilst the mitsi has installed a new common rail 3.2.
Yep, when we start talkin those types of numbers on a 4 door ute, we are starting to get into Prado or Pajero territory.
The fuel issue isnt that big a deal to be honest as it doesnt matter what i drive, it will still need to be fueled and a little peugot 306, whilst great value, isnt that great for carrying tools etc.
I also tend to do a LOT of highway driving, so at least i will get more bang for the buck if i go diesel.
After reading both lots of info, there isnt that much seperating the 2 in terms of fruit etc, so it will get to the stage of which is the better "fit".if you always do as you have always done, you will always get what you have always got

well there you go, motors are getting smaller and more powerfull. Navaras had 3.2 normally aspirated diesels till about 99 and they were slugs. Went to a 3L TD which was also fitted to the patrols and from all accounts (a few mates have them) an excellent unit. So now they've gone even smaller and more powerfull. Driveability-wise there's probably not that much between them now. I know that some of the earlier TDs from various manufacturers had turbo lag that was long enough to brew a cup of tea in, hence my comments about power bands. Enjoy your new drive, whatever you end up getting.

I didnt mean for that sentence to sound rude Mick....sorry for that.
The 33 grand special is for the 110 kw navara dual cab, the st-x sells for nearly 46k GST inc.
It looks like the old st-r is now the "base" model.
In the end i will take both for a drive up some really big hills or to be exact the 1 really big hill between work and home.......it goes for about 10k in differing grades, it will be interesting to see how both perform.
I suppose the other thing to consider is wether i might be better off putting up another few grand and buying a Prado GXL.......im sure the dog would appreciate the comfort
