Bar top
Whilst in Brisbane for the T and WWW show
last May I picked up a couple of really
grouse pieces of blackheart sassafras from
some visiting Taswegians. Unfortunately I
didn't have the old ute with me or I would
have filled it up as well!
Anyway, the sassafras has become a bar top
and I want to show it off so I'm looking
for someone out there in finishing land to
recommend to me a suitable material that will
withstand the usual treatment of bar flies
and/or clumsy barmen such as myself but not
hide the grain and colour of this beautiful
species.
Cheers,
Woodchuck

Just made a small box from some highly figured B/h Sassafrass, What a magnificent timber! Back to the finish for the bar top;
I recently built a bar from jarrah & wanted a durable & good looking finish to the top so I went up to Bunnies & purchased a 2pk finish. approx $20 / 500mm (sold together as A&B) follow the instructions properly & it will give you a finish you'll be very proud of!
Just a little tip! Instructions advise after pouring on mixed liquid it will self level and you use CO2 to expell the tiny air bubbles. Go & buy a small butane torch or similar to do it correctly as I assure you it will save a LOT of sanding when dry!!!
