Extension: Attached trusses to existing hipped roof
Hi,
I have a 40 year old house with a conventional hipped roof. I am extending at the rear, and the extension will be built with trusses. What is the best way to tie the trusses from the new section into the hipped roof from the old section?
One chippy advised he will put smaller trusses on top of the hipped roof. Another chippy advised he will only use trusses over the new section and will stick build the portion were the trussed roof needs to tie into the hipped roof.
Any advice or recommendations?
Thanks,
Frank

Most people use the trusses probably less time the open roof will be exposed to the weather.

frank you can do it either way but the stick method alows a little leeway if the hieght or slope of the trusses dosnt quite match the existing. The existing hip might have a sag in it as well.
Also make sure the truss manufactuter knows wether the trusses have to carry the existing hip. In other words are you pulling out the connecting wall.

I wont be pulling out the connecting wall, so the trusses wont need to carry the hipped roof.
Thanks,
