Default Where does the + go?

When I was in whatever class matches year 7, we wrote our sums:

    YOU
    YOO
    HOO +
    YES

    No wonder I was confused

Now, is there an answer to the above?

No, there is no answer for it. Look at the third digits. Y + Y + H can never be equal to Y without carrying onto the next digit.

And we usually put the plus sign on the left Greg.

    Default Left Wing Teachers. SHAME

    Typical!!!!!.

Now the teachers have poor year seven students even placing their maths signs on the left.

    Where will it end.
    Wongo, you're showing your age.
In my days, everything was done on the right, we didn't even cater for those writing with a left hand.

Apparently left handed individuals are good at chess and handy in bed.

But I still like the + signs on the right. It's much tidier.

    Greg

PS. Naturally you're correct regarding the sum.

That’s interesting Greg. I didn’t go to (primary) school in Australia. From where I come from we are always taught to have the signs on the left. Maybe it is different here.

Sorry for shooting you too quick.

They now do algebra in year 5 in NSW. And it's called algebra. The only difference to the way we used to do it; instead of saying 3a = 9, they now say 3X [ ] = 9. Where the [ ] is a box but I can't do one on this site.
