Bloody all-round legend!

As a war correspndent,
lost an eye - courtesy of a Betty bomber, on a Pacific invasion beach
then went on to be a film critic. And in the 1990's to become an Australian icon courtesy of Elle McFeast.
Cared for the woman he loved while in his 80s.

A voice, with a wit, that spoke like one of us, not like an intellectual (or owner-operator ((aka wanker)).
