Glues and Fillers

This is probably a basic question, but what glue should I use to restore old silky oak furniture? Is there a better glue than PVA?
My second question relates to fillers for the same timber. I seem to remember reading some years ago about making up filler from the sawdust of the timber to be filled, mixed with glue. PVA does not seem to sand too well so what could I use for this?

There are a lot of better glues arround than PVA for a number of purposes but common PVA still works well for most applications.
It would depend on how important & significant the furniture piece is how fussy you get.
Have a look at the higher grades of pva for a start.
PVA & sawdust mix has been tossed arround quite a bit Ive come to the conclusion that its more trouble than its worth, considering the problems.
Epoxy & saw dust is a lot better but there are some real good wood fillers arround.
You mayhave to mix two colours to get a good match or add some colour.
"Timbermate" or "Wattly Wood stop" is a godd place to start.
You may see references to a finishers hand book arround this bb it may be helpfull.
