effect on noise by painting floor boards
Im interested in hearing peoples thoughts about whether painting original floorboards is likely to dull down any noise (was thinking maybe less movement or something?) The other positive side to me painting would be that if i get to one of the bedrooms and, alas, only half the room is boarded (due to previous shabby reno) ... finding the exact timber may not be as much an issue (maybe?)
Would like to hear the thoughts of those in the know ... and speculation of those not
Also, out of interests sake ... if someone (say future purchaser) wanted to bring them back to polished boards rather than paint ... would that be impossible?
Weighing up options at this stage ... would really love to see whats under the (practically new) carpet ... much prefer floorboards over carpet ... think i might find something cool as its a 1920's 3rd floor unit and builders report says definitely timber ... curiosity will kill this cat.

You'll only dull down noise of bare floor boards by carpeting them, or using a purpose designed rubber mat.
Painting them will have exactly the same effect on noise transmission that changing the colour of your car will on its top speed.
Painting may make it a bit harder to sand, depending on the type of paint, but won't really impact on the ability to polish later.
Cheers,
P

oi! hahaha hey, im grasping at straws for a "good" reason to rip up carpet trying all angles ... good about paint being able to be sanded though ... nice to know I might not masacre the floor if its good ...
ps. red cars have always gone faster.
